Push to Down Dog

push to down dog
Here's a video of one of my favorite yoga transitions to increase shoulder mobility and stability all in one shot. Check out the video below.
I love incorporating yoga into my patients' treatment plans when I can, and this is definitely a move I use for my patients as well as in my classes. The push to down dog is great for opening up the latissmus dorsi and teres major muscles while activating the serratus anterior and all the trapezius muscles to move the shoulder into a strong, stable position.
If you ever get that little pinch in the front, top of your shoulder while lifting your arms, the push to down dog may be a great way to do some shoulder rehab - with the right guidance. As always, please consult a qualified physician or healthcare professional before starting any self care.

For your practice and teaching, try a few rounds of these to prep for your next bakasana (crow pose) or adho mukha vrksasana (handstand) and see if you feel the difference!
