![]() Hi all! I'm finally getting back to blogging after being away. This is going to be a new segment I'm starting to share some of my go-to moves. Some people ask me how I can change up my yoga classes on the fly or take requests and still make the class work. Part of it is that I have some go-tos that I've found over years of teaching. Hopefully, I'll be able to share some with you. Let's take a look at prepping for Svarga Dvidasana (Bird of Paradise) for the first of this series. A summary video is at the end. Prep for the needed internal rotation of the shoulders. Prep the adductors, hamstrings, and chest. Deeper opening of hips and chest. Integrating shoulder rotation, chest and hip opening. Deeper hamstring opening. Balance with hip and chest opening. Here's a quick video to recap. There are my go-to moves to prepare for Bird of Paradise. Of course there are other poses and movements that can be used and that I do use in an actual class, but these are the main ones if in a pinch! I would love to hear what you do and/or suggestions below! Namasté Loving the yoga knowledge? Subscribe for FREE to receive updates!

So glad you are home safe! My guess you are full if wonderful stories from your extensive journey! It looked fantastic! I have a few questions about hips being out of alignment. Is it possible to work threw yoga to correct this? Or Do I need have them adjusted. Even in "frog" pose I can see I'm out! Just wondering if my yoga will fix it ! My guess......no ! I love "bird of paradise"!!!

Thanks Mary! It was definitely an awesome journey. Hips can be in less than optimal positions due to various reasons, and, yes, specific motions including yoga can definitely them it "back into alignment". An adjustment can help make a quick correction, but I still give patients homework (sometimes yoga) to maintain that correction. I'd have to see what you mean by your hips being "out" to assess what is happening and tell you what poses might help. Hope you are well!
